Today We Will Be Discussing:

Tooth Whitening

Because having whiter teeth has now become the top aesthetic concern of most clients, there are numerous ways to whiten teeth. The most popular technique is using a home tooth whitening system that will whiten teeth dramatically. Because tooth lightening just works on natural tooth enamel, it is important to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, etc. Replacement of any restorations will be done after whitening so they will match the newly bleached teeth.

Most dentists utilize numerous approaches: custom made tray bleaching, professional strength white strips, and in-office lightening.

The tray approach involves having impressions taken, which the lab fabricates into custom vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is put in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The whole procedure takes about a week of everyday use. Three various strengths of gel may be used, however, the greater the strength, the higher the likelihood of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray method is suggested for severely stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it might take numerous months of use to see substantial color improvement.

Our in-office treatment is a really quick and practical lightening procedure. The visit is roughly one hour including both the preparation and treatment. Our patients love this treatment due to the fact that it is so easy and fast!

Tooth bleaching is not permanent. A touch-up may be required once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For maintenance of whitened teeth the trays need to be used every couple of months.

Reasons For Tooth Whitening:

  • Yellow, brown stained teeth.

  • Normal wear of outer tooth layer.

  • Florousis (extreme fluoridation throughout tooth development).

  • Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, and so on).
