Today's Conversation Will Be About:

Dental Crowns

A crown (or cap) is a covering that covers the whole tooth surface area restoring it to its initial shape and size. A crown protects and strengthens the tooth structure giving the tooth a longer life span than it would have if recovered by fillings or other kinds of restorations.

Crowns are full coverage restorations that are utilized to cover a tooth that is most likely to break, or is too broken down to be brought back with a filling. They are most frequently done after root canal treatments, or when a huge filling wears out. The larger the hole made by a cavity that has to be treated, the more likely a crown will be required. Even after a filling is put in a large cavity, a tooth is most likely to break. Remember that the jaw muscles are the strongest in the human body. Teeth undergo remarkable pressures. Crowns ride over the weakened tooth, offering strength and protecting the tooth against breakage. A broken or cracked tooth is a far more severe matter and far more challenging to treat. Crowns prevent this, along with producing a nice smile.

It takes 2 appointments to restore a tooth with a crown. In the first visit any decay is eliminated from the tooth and it is formed to accept the crown. Then an impression is made of the tooth for use in fabricating a crown. Between the two visits the crown is made, normally of high-strength porcelain over gold alloy, all ceramic product, or gold. A temporary crown is worn throughout this time. In the 2nd visit this short-term crown is removed. Then the {permanent crown is adjusted as needed and after that cemented in place.

Exactly What Does Getting A Crown Include?

A crown treatment generally needs 2 visits. Your very first visit will include taking impressions that will be used to create your customized crown. A mold will also be utilized to create a short-term crown which will stay on your tooth for approximately two weeks until your brand-new crown is produced by a dental laboratory.

While the tooth is numb, the dental practitioner will prepare the tooth by eliminating any decay and shaping the surface area to properly fit the crown. Once these details are accomplished, your short-term crown will be positioned with temporary cement and your bite will be inspected to guarantee you are biting correctly.

At your second visit your short-term crown will be removed, the tooth will be cleaned, and your brand-new crown will be carefully positioned to guarantee the spacing and bite are accurate.

You will be given care instructions and encouraged to have routine dental visits to examine your crown. As always, correct oral hygiene will help extend the life of your new crown.
