At our practice we are proud to have expert and highly-trained dental practitioners on staff. At our dental practice we integrate state-of-the-art innovations and procedures to offer our clients with the best restorative, preventive, implant, and cosmetic dentistry care. For patients who have to get dental crowns, we are very delighted to be able to offer same day crowns.

Crowns and caps are two different names for the same thing. A dental crown is a restoration that is usually made of porcelain. It is a strong structure that is used to cover a tooth on all 4 sides to help reinforce the tooth and enhance its function.

Crowns can also be used to attach bridges, as the top part of a dental implant, or to prevent a damaged tooth from becoming weaker. Crowns can also be used to reinforce a tooth after a root canal treatment.

Crowns are also used for purely visual reasons, such as to cover a seriously stained tooth that has to be restored to its original, attractive look.

Generally getting a dental crown is a prolonged treatment. The dentist will have to take impressions, offer you with a temporary crown, await the crown to be returned from a lab, and after that have you come back to the office so that it can be permanently connected. Today at our practice patients can get same day crowns in about 2 hours.

Our same day crowns are developed in our practice thanks to our CAD-CAM technology.

CAD-CAM means "computer-aided-design-computer-aided-manufacture." Computers are used to take photos which are then computer-analyzed and used to create a crown.

This crown is really milled by a computer in our office. The crown will fit your mouth exactly and get rid of any need to send impressions or photos to an outside laboratory.

All this is done while you wait, getting rid of the need to come back for a second appointment.

You also will not need to get a temporary crown, given that our permanent crown will be instantly offered to you.

Today's Conversation Is About:

Root Canal (Endodontic Treatment)

Root canal treatment (also described as root canal therapy or endodontic therapy) is required when a cavity is allowed, through neglect, to reach all the way to the root pulp. (Regular cleanings and checkups prevent and identify issues early). In some cases deep restorations or trauma to a tooth may also cause the nerve to be damaged to the point it requires root canal therapy. Once this happens, the pulp ends up being infected, and can even extend through the root tip and begin to eat away at the surrounding bone (this is an abscess).

By the time the pulp is infected it needs to be treated, and can not recover by itself. It can even deteriorate the whole immune system. This is dangerous, and may be extremely painful. Signs that the pulp has actually become infected might include sensitivity to hot/cold or sugary foods, pain, swelling, pain to biting or pressure, and a bad taste in the mouth. Often, however, no symptoms are apparent and the individual is unaware of any issue until a checkup.

A root canal is then performed to clean out the infected tooth pulp, and disinfect the canals of the tooth. The only other treatment would be to remove the tooth. As soon as the infection is dealt with, the canal(s) are filled in to prevent any additional infection. Generally a core build-up and crown is suggested for bring back a tooth that has had root canal therapy.
