Teeth Veneers (Porcelain)
Veneers are a very thin pieces of resilient, tooth shaped, porcelain that are customizeded (for shape and color) by a professional dental laboratory. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to create a gorgeous and attractive smile.
Veneers can completely reshape your teeth and smile. They can commonly be alternatives to crowns and the perfect solution in treating lots of cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
Just like most dental restorations, veneers might at some point need replacement; however, they are still very resilient and will last multiple years, giving you a long lasting, gorgeous smile.
How Are Veneers Placed?
Veneers are a dental treatment in which a covering is placed over the outside (visible area) of the tooth. Veneers are typically only done to the part of the teeth that are seen when talking or grinning. The treatment can be direct or indirect.
The direct technique normally involves putting composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This technique is typically referred to as bonding.
The indirect method normally involves two visits because the veneers will be fabricated at a dental lab. At the first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are offered a temporary covering. In two to three weeks the veneers are back from the lab, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The laboratory made veneers are normally made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are extremely esthetic.
The advantage of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is removed, and the procedure is normally less uncomfortable. Veneers are not suggested for teeth that have huge fillings or little tooth structure.
You will get care directions for your veneers. Appropriate brushing, flossing and regular dental visits will help in the life of your new and beautiful veneers.
