Porcelain Veneers (Tooth)
Veneers are a really thin pieces of long lasting, tooth shaped, porcelain that are custom made (for shape and color) by a professional dental laboratory. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to create a beautiful and appealing smile.
Veneers can entirely reshape your teeth and smile. They can commonly be alternatives to crowns and the ideal option in treating many cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
As with many dental restorations, veneers might at some point need replacement; however, they are still really long lasting and will last many years, offering you a long lasting, gorgeous smile.
How Are Veneers Placed?
Veneers are a dental procedure in which a covering is put over the outside (visible area) of the tooth. Veneers are generally only done to the part of the teeth that are seen when talking or smiling. The treatment can be direct or indirect.
The direct method typically involves putting composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This method is usually referred to as bonding.
The indirect strategy generally involves 2 visits because the veneers will be produced at a dental laboratory. At the first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are given a temporary covering. In two to three weeks the veneers are back from the laboratory, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The lab fabricated veneers are usually made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are very esthetic.
The advantage of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is eliminated, and the procedure is normally less uncomfortable. Veneers are not advised for teeth that have big fillings or little tooth structure.
You will get care guidelines for your veneers. Proper brushing, flossing and regular dental visits will help in the life of your new and beautiful veneers.
