Porcelain Tooth Veneers
Veneers are a really thin pieces of resilient, tooth shaped, porcelain that are customizeded (for shape and color) by a professional dental lab. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to create a lovely and attractive smile.
Veneers can completely reshape your teeth and smile. They can typically be alternatives to crowns and the perfect option in treating numerous cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
Similar to a lot of dental restorations, veneers might one day require replacement; however, they are still extremely long lasting and will last years, offering you a long lasting, beautiful smile.
How Are Veneers Applied?
Veneers are a dental procedure where a covering is positioned over the outside (noticeable area) of the tooth. Veneers are usually only done to the part of the teeth that are seen when talking or grinning. The treatment can be direct or indirect.
The direct method typically involves positioning composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This method is typically referred to as bonding.
The indirect method usually involves 2 visits because the veneers will be made at a dental laboratory. At the very first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are given a short-term covering. In two to three weeks the veneers are back from the lab, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The laboratory produced veneers are usually made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are very esthetic.
The advantage of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is eliminated, and the treatment is normally less unpleasant. Veneers are not recommended for teeth that have large fillings or little tooth structure.
You will receive care directions for your veneers. Proper brushing, flossing and regular dental visits will help in the life of your new and gorgeous veneers.
