Because having whiter teeth has now become the primary aesthetic concern of a lot of clients, there are numerous ways to bleach teeth. The most popular method is using a home tooth whitening system that will lighten teeth dramatically. Because tooth bleaching only works on natural tooth enamel, it is necessary to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, and so on. Replacement of any restorations will be done after lightening so they will match the recently bleached teeth.
Most dentists use numerous techniques: customizeded tray bleaching, professional strength white strips, and in-office whitening.
The tray method involves having impressions taken, which the laboratory fabricates into customized vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is placed in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The entire process takes about a week of day-to-day use. 3 various strengths of gel may be used, however, the higher the strength, the higher the possibility of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray method is advised for badly stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it may take multiple months of use to see substantial color improvement.
Our in-office treatment is a really quick and practical lightening procedure. The visit is roughly one hour including both the preparation and treatment. Our patients love this treatment since it is so easy and quick!
Tooth whitening is not permanent. A touch-up might be needed once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For maintenance of whitened teeth the trays should be used every few months.
Reasons For Tooth Whitening:
- Yellow, brown stained teeth.
- Normal wear of outer tooth layer.
- Florousis (extreme fluoridation throughout tooth development).
- Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, etc.).
