What Are Same Day Crowns?

Same day crowns are a new technology that a dentist can economically bring back damaged teeth in a single appointment using a high-quality ceramic product that matches the natural color of other teeth.

How Does It Work?

Same day crowns use a CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) technology, incorporating a camera, computer and a milling machine in one instrument. The dental practitioner uses a special camera to take an accurate image of the broken tooth. This optical impression is transferred and shown on a color computer screen, where the dental practitioner uses CAD technology to design the restoration. Then CAM takes over and instantly develops the restoration while the client waits. Finally, the dentist bonds the brand-new restoration to the surface area of the old tooth. The whole process takes about one hour.

Exactly What Does This Innovation Mean For A Client?

A tooth-colored restoration means no more silver fillings discoloring smiles. The filling is natural-looking, suitable with tissue in the mouth, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant. Dentists no longer have to create temporaries or take impressions and send them to a laboratory. Because of this, the traditional 2nd appointment has actually been eliminated. This new technology has more than a decade of clinical research and documentation to support it. The restorations have been proven precise, safe and effective.

Today's Topic Is:

Dental Bonding (Composite)

Bonding is a treatment where we use a tooth-colored composite product to a tooth, shape it, allow it to solidify, and polish it. It can be used in specific situations where a tooth has been damaged or ended up being stained. These are usually small repairs, ones that can be resolved through this relatively inexpensive means instead of through a more pricey dental treatment.

Here's How It Works:
Bonding involves adhering composite resin material that is matched to the color of the tooth, to the front of the tooth. This is done to repair damage done to the tooth by decay, to alter the positioning of the tooth, close gaps in between the teeth, or for cosmetic purposes. First the surface area of the tooth is roughed up in order to accept the bonding and hold it. A gel is applied to micro etch the tooth surface area, and a primer/bond agent is used so the material sticks to the surface. Then the material itself is positioned on the tooth and solidified with intense light. The composite resin material is formed and polished to get a glossy finish as a last step.
