What Are Same Day Dental Crowns?

Same day crowns are a new innovation that a dentist can financially bring back damaged teeth in a single visit using a premium ceramic material that matches the natural color of other teeth.

How Does It Work?

Same day crowns use a CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) innovation, incorporating a camera, computer and a milling device in one instrument. The dentist uses a special camera to take an precise photo of the broken tooth. This optical impression is downloaded and shown on a color computer screen, where the dentist uses CAD technology to develop the restoration. Then CAM takes over and immediately develops the restoration while the client waits. Finally, the dental practitioner bonds the brand-new restoration to the surface of the old tooth. The whole procedure takes about one hour.

What Does This Technology Mean For A Client?

A tooth-colored restoration means no more silver fillings discoloring smiles. The filling is natural-looking, compatible with tissue in the mouth, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant. Dental practitioners no longer have to develop temporaries or take impressions and send them to a laboratory. Because of this, the standard second appointment has actually been eliminated. This new technology has over a decade of clinical research and documentation to support it. The restorations have been proven accurate, safe and reliable.

The Conversation For Today Is:

Dental Bonding (Composite)

Bonding is a procedure where we use a tooth-colored composite product to a tooth, shape it, allow it to harden, and polish it. It can be used in certain situations where a tooth has been broken or become stained. These are generally small repairs, ones that can be resolved through this fairly inexpensive methods rather than through a more expensive dental treatment.

Here Is How It Works:
Bonding includes adhering composite resin material that is matched to the color of the tooth, to the front of the tooth. This is done to fix damage done to the tooth by decay, to change the positioning of the tooth, close spaces between the teeth, or for cosmetic purposes. First the surface area of the tooth is roughed up in order to accept the bonding and hold it. A gel is applied to micro etch the tooth surface, and a primer/bond agent is used so the material sticks to the surface. Then the material itself is put on the tooth and hardened with intense light. The composite resin material is formed and polished to obtain a lustrous finish as a last step.
