Today's Topic Will Be:

Composite Dental Bonding

Bonding is a procedure in which we use a tooth-colored composite product to a tooth, shape it, allow it to harden, and polish it. It can be used in certain circumstances where a tooth has been damaged or ended up being stained. These are typically small repairs, ones that can be resolved through this reasonably affordable means instead of through a more expensive dental treatment.

How It Works:
Bonding involves adhering composite resin material that is matched to the color of the tooth, to the front of the tooth. This is done to repair damage done to the tooth by decay, to modify the alignment of the tooth, close gaps in between the teeth, or for cosmetic purposes. First the surface of the tooth is roughed up in order to accept the bonding and hold it. A gel is applied to micro etch the tooth surface area, and a primer/bond agent is applied so the material sticks to the surface. Then the material itself is placed on the tooth and solidified with intense light. The composite resin material is formed and polished to get a glossy finish as a last step.
