Crowns and caps are 2 different names for the same thing. A dental crown is a restoration that is normally made of porcelain. It is a strong structure that is used to cover a tooth on all four sides to help reinforce the tooth and improve its function.

Crowns can also be used to attach bridges, as the top part of a dental implant, or to prevent a damaged tooth from ending up being weaker. Crowns can also be used to enhance a tooth after a root canal procedure.

Crowns are also used for purely visual reasons, such as to cover a seriously tarnished tooth that needs to be brought back to its original, appealing look.

Typically getting a dental crown is a lengthy treatment. The dentist will need to take impressions, supply you with a short-term crown, await the crown to be returned from a lab, and after that have you come back to the office so that it can be permanently attached. Today at our practice clients can get same day crowns in about 2 hours.

Our same day crowns are produced in our practice thanks to our CAD-CAM innovation.

CAD-CAM means "computer-aided-design-computer-aided-manufacture." Computers are used to take images which are then computer-analyzed and used to produce a crown.

This crown is actually milled by a computer in our office. The crown will fit your mouth precisely and eliminate any need to send out impressions or images to an outside lab.

All this is done while you wait, removing the need to return for a second visit.

You also will not have to get a crown, because our long-term crown will be instantly offered to you.

The Topic Of The Day Is:

Endodontic Treatment (Root Canal)

Root canal treatment (also referred to as root canal therapy or endodontic therapy) is needed when a cavity is allowed, through neglect, to reach all the way to the root pulp. (Regular cleanings and checkups prevent and detect issues early). Sometimes deep restorations or trauma to a tooth may also trigger the nerve to be damaged to the point it needs root canal treatment. As soon as this takes place, the pulp becomes infected, and can even extend through the root tip and begin to eat away at the surrounding bone (this is an abscess).

By the time the pulp is infected it must be treated, and can not heal on its own. It can even weaken the entire immune system. This is dangerous, and may be very agonizing. Symptoms that the pulp has actually become infected might consist of sensitivity to hot/cold or sweets, pain, swelling, discomfort to biting or pressure, and a bad taste in the mouth. Often, however, no signs are apparent and the person is unaware of any issue up until a checkup.

A root canal is then performed to clear out the infected tooth pulp, and sanitize the canals of the tooth. The only other treatment would be to extract the tooth. Once the infection is dealt with, the canal(s) are filled in to prevent any more infection. Normally a core build-up and crown is recommended for bring back a tooth that has actually had root canal therapy.
