Today We Will Be Talking About:

Composite Dental Bonding

Bonding is a procedure where we use a tooth-colored composite material to a tooth, shape it, allow it to solidify, and polish it. It can be used in specific scenarios where a tooth has been broken or ended up being stained. These are typically minor repairs, ones that can be resolved through this relatively affordable methods instead of through a more costly dental procedure.

How It Works:
Bonding involves adhering composite resin material that is matched to the color of the tooth, to the front of the tooth. This is done to fix damage done to the tooth by decay, to modify the alignment of the tooth, close spaces between the teeth, or for cosmetic purposes. First the surface of the tooth is roughened in order to accept the bonding and hold it. A gel is applied to micro etch the tooth surface area, and a primer/bond agent is applied so the material adheres to the surface area. Then the material itself is put on the tooth and hardened with intense light. The composite resin material is formed and polished to obtain a lustrous finish as a last step.
