What Are Single Visit Crowns?

Same day crowns are a new innovation that a dental practitioner can economically restore damaged teeth in a single appointment using a high-quality ceramic product that matches the natural color of other teeth.

How Does It Work?

Same day crowns use a CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) innovation, incorporating a camera, computer and a milling machine in one instrument. The dentist uses a unique camera to take an precise image of the broken tooth. This optical impression is downloaded and displayed on a color computer screen, where the dental practitioner uses CAD innovation to create the restoration. Then CAM takes over and instantly develops the restoration while the patient waits. Finally, the dentist bonds the new restoration to the surface area of the old tooth. The whole procedure takes about one hour.

What Does This Innovation Mean For A Patient?

A tooth-colored restoration means no more silver fillings discoloring smiles. The filling is natural-looking, suitable with tissue in the mouth, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant. Dentists no longer need to develop temporaries or take impressions and send them to a lab. Because of this, the standard 2nd appointment has been removed. This brand-new innovation has more than a decade of clinical research and documentation to support it. The restorations have actually been proven precise, safe and effective.

Today's Topic Will Be:

Bridges (Dental)

A dental bridge is a fixed (non-removable) appliance and is an excellent way to replace missing teeth.

There are multiple kinds of bridges. We will discuss the best options for your particular case. The "traditional bridge" is the most popular type and is generally made of porcelain fused to metal. These fixed bridges are most popular because they resemble your natural teeth. This kind of bridge includes 2 crowns that go over 2 anchoring teeth (abutment teeth) and are connected on either side of the synthetic teeth (pontics), filling the space developed by one or more missing teeth.

Dental bridges are highly resilient and will last many years with correct home care; however, they might need to be replaced or re-cemented due to normal wear.

Reasons For Considering A Fixed Bridge:

  • Restore chewing and speaking ability.

  • Maintain facial shape.

  • Fill space of missing teeth.

  • Prevent remaining teeth from drifting out of position.

  • Upgrade from a detachable partial denture to a permanent dental appliance.

  • Restore your smile.

Exactly what does getting a Fixed Bridge include?

Getting a bridge typically requires 2 or more visits. While the teeth are numb, the two anchoring teeth are prepared by eliminating a portion of enamel to enable a crown. Next, a highly accurate impression (mold) is made which will be sent to a dental lab where the bridge will be made. In addition, a short-term bridge will be made and used for multiple weeks up until your next visit.

At the second visit, your permanent bridge will be thoroughly inspected, adjusted, and cemented to achieve a proper fit and comfy bite.

You will receive care guidelines at the conclusion of your treatment. Correct brushing, flossing and regular dental visits will help in the life of your new permanent bridge.

Why You Should Consider Dental Bridges?

This is an option for filling the area produced by a missing tooth. It is formed to resemble the missing tooth, and it takes its place in the mouth. The sides of a bridge uses the two surrounding teeth for assistance, hence the name. A bridge replaces the missing tooth, both functionally and cosmetically. Bridge work is as much an art as it is an precise science. The materials used may be gold alloys, porcelain bonded to metal alloy, or all ceramic material. The choice of material depends upon requirements for strength, wear, and/or esthetics.

It is very important that a missing tooth be replaced as soon as possible for multiple reasons. If not treated the teeth surrounding the space start to shift inward, developing an entire domino effect of bad things. Teeth use their neighbors for assistance, and, with one missing, they begin to "fall." As this worsens the bite changes in response to the pressure. This can ultimately lead to problems with the entire jaw, e.g. TMJ. The surrounding teeth weaken and it is simply a matter of time before they, too, are lost. Gum disease ends up being a serious issue, with the difficulty of treatment enhancing as the neglect continues.
