Too busy for the typical two dental visit crown?

Technology today is changing our everyday lives. Many people, however, aren't aware that innovation also is impacting dentistry in brand-new and interesting ways.

Cutting-edge innovations in dental instruments are requiring less time in the dental chair, causing less discomfort and producing satisfying results.

One advancement instrument, called same day crowns, enables dental practitioners to quickly fix damaged teeth with natural-colored ceramic fillings, conserving clients time and inconvenience.

What are Same Day Crowns?

Same day crowns, mean that a dentist can economically fix broken teeth in a single appointment using a top quality ceramic product that matches the natural color of other teeth.

How does it work?

Same day crowns use CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) technology, including a camera, computer, and milling machine in one instrument.

The dentist uses a special camera to take a precise photo of the broken tooth. This optical impression is transferred and shown on a color computer screen, where the dentist uses CAD innovation to design the restoration. The CAM takes control and immediately creates the restoration while the client waits.

At lastly, the dentist bonds the brand-new restoration to the surface of the old tooth. The whole process takes about 2 hours.

Exactly what does this development mean for a patient?

A tooth-colored restoration means no more silver fillings tarnishing smiles. The filling is natural-looking, suitable with tissue in the mouth, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant.

Dental practitioners no longer have to produce temporaries or take impressions and send them to a lab. Because of this, the standard 2nd appointment has been removed.

Same day crowns have two decades of medical research and paperwork to support the technology. The restorations have actually been proven accurate, safe and reliable.

How can I learn if this is an option for me?

Call our practice today and we will be glad to answer your questions on this new technology.

Temporal-Mandibular Joint

TMJ means temporal-mandibular joint. Temporal, as in temple area of skull; mandibular as in mandible, or lower jaw; joint as in it's where the head and jaw meet. Issues in this joint might be caused by a misalignment of the teeth, injury, or excess muscle stress. Aside from the two bones that meet there, cartilage buffers them and 5 muscles are involved in the area. If something fails a good deal of trouble can result.

Problems in this area can cause:

  • Earaches.

  • Headaches.

  • Pain in the jaw muscles.

  • Trouble in opening and closing the mouth.

  • Soreness in the area, often extending to the face.

  • Clicking or popping of the jaw.

Dental treatments for the condition can consist of replacing missing teeth, moving teeth, adjusting the bite, filling spaces in between teeth, etc. There is no one solution that is right for all cases. Often a plastic mouthpiece is utilized to prevent clenching or grinding that is adding to the issue. If untreated and required to extremes, surgery may be required to repair a terribly damaged joint.
