Today's Topic Will Be About:

Teeth Whitening

Because having whiter teeth has now become the number one aesthetic concern of the majority of clients, there are numerous methods to bleach teeth. The most popular method is using a home tooth whitening system that will whiten teeth considerably. Since tooth bleaching only works on natural tooth enamel, it is very important to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, etc. Replacement of any restorations will be done after lightening so they will match the newly bleached teeth.

Most dentists utilize multiple approaches: custom made tray lightening, professional strength white strips, and in-office whitening.

The tray approach involves having impressions taken, which the lab fabricates into custom vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is placed in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The entire procedure takes about a week of everyday use. 3 different strengths of gel might be used, however, the higher the strength, the higher the possibility of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray approach is advised for badly stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it may take numerous months of use to see significant color improvement.

Our in-office treatment is a extremely quick and practical whitening procedure. The visit is roughly one hour consisting of both the preparation and treatment. Our patients enjoy this treatment due to the fact that it is so simple and fast!

Tooth whitening is not permanent. A touch-up might be needed once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For upkeep of whitened teeth the trays must be utilized every couple of months.

Reasons For Tooth Whitening:

  • Yellow, brown stained teeth.

  • Normal wear of outer tooth layer.

  • Florousis (excessive fluoridation throughout tooth development).

  • Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, etc.).
