Because having whiter teeth has now become the primary aesthetic concern of most patients, there are multiple methods to bleach teeth. The most popular method is utilizing a home tooth bleaching system that will bleach teeth considerably. Since tooth bleaching just works on natural tooth enamel, it is necessary to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, and so on. Replacement of any restorations will be done after lightening so they will match the recently bleached teeth.
Most dentists utilize numerous methods: customizeded tray lightening, professional strength white strips, and in-office whitening.
The tray method involves having impressions taken, which the laboratory makes into custom vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is placed in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The entire procedure takes about a week of day-to-day use. 3 various strengths of gel may be used, however, the higher the strength, the greater the possibility of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray method is suggested for terribly stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it might take multiple months of use to see considerable color improvement.
Our in-office treatment is a really quick and hassle-free whitening procedure. The visit is around one hour including both the preparation and treatment. Our clients love this treatment since it is so simple and fast!
Tooth whitening is not permanent. A touch-up might be needed once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For maintenance of whitened teeth the trays need to be used every few months.
Reasons For Tooth Whitening:
- Yellow, brown stained teeth.
- Normal wear of external tooth layer.
- Florousis (excessive fluoridation throughout tooth development).
- Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, and so on).
