At our dental practice we do same day crowns. You may be asking, what are same day crowns and exactly what can it do for me?

It is a 3D system that lets us make porcelain crowns and inlays all in one appointment. We have now been using this innovation for many years and love it more than ever.

Same day crowns are an in-surgery computer system that enables us to replace damaged or missing tooth structures with a ceramic material that's as close to a natural tooth as is possible.

This is done while you remain in the practice, in just one visit. All ceramic porcelain inlays and onlays, veneers and crowns that feel and look like natural teeth can be made and fitted in a single appointment, typically in about an hour.

So what is the treatment?

We scan the opposite teeth and the method the teeth bite together first. We remove the old filling, and degeneration and any thin weak tooth material and scan the readied tooth.

After this we quit working in the mouth and start working with the computer.

Everybody enjoys seeing the pictures of their teeth and the designing of their new tooth. We make 3D design and this information is sent out to the milling system.

Everybody asks if this is like 3D printing and yes it is, but the tooth is not developed layer by layer, it is cut back from a block in the device, which is much stronger.

The block is then exactly sculpted to produce your brand-new restoration, which is fantastic.

Finally, the custom made crown restoration bonded effortlessly into the tooth, enhancing and sealing it at the same time then we tidy up!

We have to make sure that you can bite correctly, that its smooth and that you can floss.

The Conversation Of The Day Is:

Dental Crowns

A crown (or cap) is a covering that covers the whole tooth surface restoring it to its original shape and size. A crown protects and reinforces the tooth structure giving the tooth a longer life span than it would have if recovered by fillings or other types of restorations.

Crowns are full coverage restorations that are utilized to cover a tooth that is likely to break, or is too broken down to be brought back with a filling. They are most commonly done after root canal treatments, or when a huge filling wears out. The bigger the hole made by a cavity that needs to be treated, the more likely a crown will be needed. Even after a filling is put in a huge cavity, a tooth is most likely to break. Bear in mind that the jaw muscles are the strongest in the body. Teeth go through remarkable pressures. Crowns sit over the weakened tooth, providing strength and securing the tooth against damage. A damaged or cracked tooth is a far more severe matter and far more tough to treat. Crowns prevent this, along with producing a nice smile.

It takes two visits to bring back a tooth with a crown. In the very first appointment any decay is removed from the tooth and it is shaped to accept the crown. Then an impression is made of the tooth for use in producing a crown. Between the two visits the crown is made, usually of high-strength porcelain over gold alloy, all ceramic material, or gold. A short-term crown is worn during this time. In the second visit this short-term crown is removed. Then the {permanent crown is adjusted as needed then cemented in place.

What Does Getting A Crown Involve?

A crown procedure generally requires 2 visits. Your very first appointment will include taking impressions that will be used to create your custom-made crown. A mold will also be used to create a short-term crown which will stay on your tooth for around two weeks up until your new crown is fabricated by a dental lab.

While the tooth is numb, the dentist will prepare the tooth by removing any decay and forming the surface area to effectively fit the crown. When these details are achieved, your short-term crown will be put with temporary cement and your bite will be examined to ensure you are biting appropriately.

At your 2nd visit your short-term crown will be removed, the tooth will be cleaned, and your new crown will be thoroughly placed to ensure the spacing and bite are accurate.

You will be given care guidelines and encouraged to have regular dental check ups to check your crown. As always, proper oral hygiene will help extend the life of your brand-new crown.
