What Are Same Day Crowns?

Same day crowns are a new technology that a dentist can financially restore damaged teeth in a single consultation using a top quality ceramic material that matches the natural color of other teeth.

How Does It Work?

Same day crowns use a CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) innovation, incorporating a camera, computer and a milling machine in one instrument. The dentist uses a unique camera to take an precise image of the damaged tooth. This optical impression is downloaded and displayed on a color computer screen, where the dental practitioner uses CAD technology to design the restoration. Then CAM takes over and immediately creates the restoration while the client waits. Finally, the dentist bonds the new restoration to the surface area of the old tooth. The entire process takes about one hour.

Exactly What Does This Innovation Mean For A Patient?

A tooth-colored restoration means no more silver fillings discoloring smiles. The filling is natural-looking, suitable with tissue in the mouth, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant. Dental practitioners no longer need to produce temporaries or take impressions and send them to a laboratory. Because of this, the standard 2nd appointment has been eliminated. This brand-new technology has over 10 years of scientific research and documentation to support it. The restorations have been proven precise, safe and efficient.

Today We Will Be Reviewing:

Temporal-Mandibular Joint

TMJ means temporal-mandibular joint. Temporal, as in temple area of skull; mandibular as in mandible, or lower jaw; joint as in it's where the head and jaw meet. Problems in this joint might be caused by a misalignment of the teeth, trauma, or excess muscle stress. Aside from the two bones that meet there, cartilage buffers them and 5 muscles are involved in the area. If something fails a good deal of trouble can result.

Problems in this area can trigger:

  • Earaches.

  • Headaches.

  • Pain in the jaw muscles.

  • Trouble or soreness in opening and closing the mouth.

  • Soreness in the area, sometimes extending to the face.

  • Clicking or popping of the jaw.

Dental treatments for the condition can include replacing missing teeth, moving teeth, adjusting the bite, filling gaps in between teeth, and so on. There is no one solution that is right for all cases. Often a plastic mouth piece is utilized to prevent clenching or grinding that is contributing to the issue. If neglected and required to extremes, surgery might be needed to fix a terribly damaged joint.
