What Is A Dental Crown?

A crown is a cap made to cover a tooth with the function of restoring it to its natural size and shape or to improve its appearance. To get ready for the crown, dentists drill to eliminate the decayed area and also form the tooth to prepare for the crown for that part which lies around and above the gum line.

Today's Subject Will Be:

Teeth Whitening

Because having whiter teeth has now become the number one aesthetic concern of a lot of clients, there are numerous ways to whiten teeth. The most popular technique is utilizing a home tooth lightening system that will lighten teeth significantly. Because tooth whitening just works on natural tooth enamel, it is necessary to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, and so on. Replacement of any restorations will be done after whitening so they will match the freshly bleached teeth.

Most dentists use multiple approaches: customizeded tray bleaching, professional strength white strips, and in-office lightening.

The tray method involves having impressions taken, which the laboratory makes into customized vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is placed in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The entire procedure takes about a week of day-to-day use. Three different strengths of gel may be used, however, the greater the strength, the greater the likelihood of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray method is recommended for severely stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it may take a number of months of use to see considerable color improvement.

Our in-office treatment is a extremely fast and convenient whitening process. The appointment is roughly one hour consisting of both the preparation and treatment. Our patients love this treatment because it is so simple and quick!

Tooth whitening is not permanent. A touch-up might be required once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For upkeep of whitened teeth the trays need to be used every few months.

Reasons For Tooth Whitening:

  • Yellow, brown stained teeth.

  • Normal wear of outer tooth layer.

  • Florousis (excessive fluoridation throughout tooth development).

  • Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, etc.).
