Same Day Dental Crowns - A Smart Innovation

We aim to stay current with the multitude of technological advances that are happening in dentistry. We are proud to have the same day crown innovation in our office. It allows us to create crowns and larger restorations in our office. Same day crowns use the most sophisticated dental innovation, consisting of 3D video imaging and CAD/CAM innovation. In layman's terms, it is a computer-designed restoration for your tooth. The whole procedure takes in between 1-2 hours and can be completed in one sitting.

Generally, a crown in the past would have required 2 visits. The first appointment consists of preparing the tooth, taking the mold, and fitting a short-term crown. During the second appointment, the temporary crown is replaced with the long-term one. With a same day crown, the entire procedure can be finished in simply one visit. We will use video imaging technology to take a photo of the tooth and use CAD/CAM innovation to create the crown. This 3D design is wirelessly sent to a milling device that sculpts the restoration out of a vacuum formed ceramic block. We will then adhere the new crown to your tooth. This removes the need to get a short-term in addition to a second visit.

Corrective dentistry procedures can be very important to the overall health of your teeth and mouth. Please call our office and request a visit.

The Discussion Of The Day Is:

Temporal Mandibular Joint

TMJ stands for temporal-mandibular joint. Temporal, as in temple area of skull; mandibular as in mandible, or lower jaw; joint as in it's where the head and jaw meet. Issues in this joint may be brought on by a misalignment of the teeth, trauma, or excess muscle stress. Aside from the two bones that meet there, cartilage buffers them and five muscles are associated with the area. If something fails a good deal of trouble can result.

Problems in this area can cause:

  • Earaches.

  • Headaches.

  • Pain in the jaw muscles.

  • Trouble in opening and closing the mouth.

  • Soreness in the area, sometimes extending to the face.

  • Clicking or popping of the jaw.

Dental treatments for the condition can include replacing missing teeth, moving teeth, adjusting the bite, filling spaces between teeth, and so on. There is no one solution that is right for all cases. In some cases a plastic mouthpiece is utilized to prevent clenching or grinding that is adding to the problem. If unattended and taken to extremes, surgery may be needed to repair a severely damaged joint.
