Because having whiter teeth has now become the top aesthetic concern of a lot of patients, there are multiple methods to whiten teeth. The most popular method is utilizing a home tooth lightening system that will whiten teeth dramatically. Because tooth bleaching only works on natural tooth enamel, it is necessary to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, and so on. Replacement of any restorations will be done after lightening so they will match the freshly bleached teeth.
Most dentists use numerous methods: custom made tray lightening, professional strength white strips, and in-office whitening.
The tray approach involves having impressions taken, which the lab produces into custom vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is placed in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The entire process takes about a week of daily use. 3 various strengths of gel might be used, however, the greater the strength, the greater the probability of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray approach is suggested for badly stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it may take numerous months of use to see substantial color improvement.
Our in-office treatment is a very quick and convenient bleaching process. The appointment is approximately one hour including both the preparation and treatment. Our patients like this treatment since it is so simple and fast!
Tooth lightening is not permanent. A touch-up might be required once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For upkeep of whitened teeth the trays ought to be utilized every few months.
Reasons For Tooth Whitening:
- Yellow, brown stained teeth.
- Normal wear of outer tooth layer.
- Florousis (excessive fluoridation during tooth development).
- Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, etc.).
