Are you too busy for the routine two dental appointment crown?

Technology today is changing our daily lives. Many individuals, however, aren't aware that innovation also is affecting dentistry in new and amazing methods.

Cutting-edge innovations in dental instruments are requiring less time in the dental chair, triggering less pain and developing rewarding results.

One development instrument, called same day crowns, enables dental practitioners to quickly restore damaged teeth with natural-colored ceramic fillings, saving clients time and trouble.

Exactly what are Same Day Crowns?

Same day crowns, mean that a dentist can quickly restore broken teeth in a single appointment using a premium ceramic material that matches the natural color of other teeth.

How does it work?

Same day crowns use CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) innovation, including a camera, computer, and milling device in one instrument.

The dental practitioner uses a special camera to take an accurate image of the damaged tooth. This optical impression is moved and displayed on a color computer screen, where the dental practitioner utilizes CAD technology to develop the restoration. The CAM takes control and automatically develops the restoration while the client waits.

Finally, the dental practitioner bonds the new restoration to the surface area of the old tooth. The whole procedure takes about 2 hours.

What does this innovation mean for a patient?

A tooth-colored restoration means no more silver fillings discoloring smiles. The filling is natural-looking, suitable with tissue in the mouth, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant.

Dental practitioners no longer need to create temporaries or take impressions and send them to a laboratory. Because of this, the standard 2nd visit has actually been removed.

Same day crowns have twenty years of clinical research study and paperwork to support the technology. The restorations have been shown accurate, safe and effective.

How can I discover if this is an option for me?

Call our practice today and we will be happy to address your questions on this new innovation.

Today's Topic Will Be:

Endodontic Treatment (Root Canal)

Root canal treatment (also described as root canal therapy or endodontic therapy) is needed when a cavity is allowed, through neglect, to reach all the way to the root pulp. (Regular cleanings and checkups prevent and identify issues early). In some cases deep restorations or trauma to a tooth might also cause the nerve to be harmed to the point it needs root canal therapy. Once this takes place, the pulp ends up being infected, and can even extend through the root tip and start to eat away at the surrounding bone (this is an abscess).

By the time the pulp is infected it has to be treated, and can not heal on its own. It can even weaken the whole immune system. This is dangerous, and might be really uncomfortable. Symptoms that the pulp has become infected may consist of sensitivity to hot/cold or sweets, pain, swelling, pain to biting or pressure, and a bad taste in the mouth. Sometimes, however, no symptoms appear and the individual is unaware of any issue until a checkup.

A root canal is then performed to clear out the infected tooth pulp, and decontaminate the canals of the tooth. The only other treatment would be to remove the tooth. As soon as the infection is dealt with, the canal(s) are filled in to prevent any additional infection. Generally a core build-up and crown is recommended for restoring a tooth that has had root canal therapy.
