Because having whiter teeth has now become the number one aesthetic concern of the majority of patients, there are numerous methods to bleach teeth. The most popular technique is utilizing a home tooth bleaching system that will whiten teeth dramatically. Because tooth lightening just works on natural tooth enamel, it is important to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, etc. Replacement of any restorations will be done after whitening so they will match the recently bleached teeth.
Most dentists utilize multiple approaches: custom made tray lightening, professional strength white strips, and in-office lightening.
The tray technique involves having impressions taken, which the lab fabricates into customized vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is placed in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The entire process takes about a week of day-to-day use. 3 different strengths of gel may be utilized, however, the greater the strength, the greater the possibility of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray technique is suggested for terribly stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it may take numerous months of use to see substantial color improvement.
Our in-office treatment is a very fast and convenient bleaching procedure. The visit is approximately one hour including both the preparation and treatment. Our patients enjoy this treatment since it is so simple and fast!
Tooth bleaching is not permanent. A touch-up may be required once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For upkeep of whitened teeth the trays ought to be utilized every few months.
Reasons For Tooth Whitening:
- Yellow, brown stained teeth.
- Normal wear of external tooth layer.
- Florousis (excessive fluoridation during tooth development).
- Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, etc.).
