Tooth Veneers (Porcelain)
Veneers are a very thin pieces of long lasting, tooth shaped, porcelain that are custom made (for shape and color) by a professional dental laboratory. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to produce a beautiful and attractive smile.
Veneers can completely reshape your teeth and smile. They can commonly be alternatives to crowns and the perfect option in treating numerous cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
Just like many dental restorations, veneers might at some point need replacement; however, they are still extremely resilient and will last many years, giving you a long lasting, gorgeous smile.
How Are Veneers Placed?
Veneers are a dental treatment where a covering is placed over the outside (visible area) of the tooth. Veneers are typically only done to the part of the teeth that are seen when talking or grinning. The procedure can be direct or indirect.
The direct technique generally involves placing composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This approach is normally referred to as bonding.
The indirect strategy typically involves 2 visits because the veneers will be made at a dental lab. At the very first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are offered a temporary covering. In 2 to 3 weeks the veneers are back from the lab, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The laboratory fabricated veneers are generally made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are very esthetic.
The benefit of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is removed, and the procedure is normally less uncomfortable. Veneers are not recommended for teeth that have big fillings or little tooth structure.
You will receive care instructions for your veneers. Correct brushing, flossing and routine dental visits will aid in the life of your new and stunning veneers.
