The Discussion For Today Will Be:

Tooth Whitening

Because having whiter teeth has now become the top aesthetic concern of a lot of patients, there are numerous methods to lighten teeth. The most popular technique is utilizing a home tooth lightening system that will bleach teeth dramatically. Since tooth bleaching just works on natural tooth enamel, it is essential to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, etc. Replacement of any restorations will be done after whitening so they will match the newly bleached teeth.

Most dentists use numerous approaches: custom made tray whitening, professional strength white strips, and in-office whitening.

The tray technique involves having impressions taken, which the lab produces into customized vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is put in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The whole process takes about a week of day-to-day use. 3 different strengths of gel may be utilized, however, the greater the strength, the greater the probability of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray technique is recommended for severely stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it might take a number of months of use to see considerable color improvement.

Our in-office treatment is a extremely fast and hassle-free bleaching procedure. The appointment is around one hour consisting of both the preparation and treatment. Our clients love this treatment because it is so simple and fast!

Tooth whitening is not permanent. A touch-up may be required once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For upkeep of whitened teeth the trays need to be utilized every couple of months.

Reasons For Tooth Whitening:

  • Yellow, brown stained teeth.

  • Normal wear of external tooth layer.

  • Florousis (excessive fluoridation throughout tooth development).

  • Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, etc.).
