Porcelain Veneers (Teeth)
Veneers are a very thin pieces of resilient, tooth shaped, porcelain that are customizeded (for shape and color) by a professional dental lab. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to produce a stunning and appealing smile.
Veneers can entirely reshape your teeth and smile. They can commonly be alternatives to crowns and the perfect solution in treating many cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
Just like most dental restorations, veneers may at some point require replacement; however, they are still very long lasting and will last many years, providing you a long lasting, stunning smile.
How Are Veneers Applied?
Veneers are a dental procedure where a covering is placed over the outside (noticeable area) of the tooth. Veneers are generally only done to the part of the teeth that are visible when talking or smiling. The procedure can be direct or indirect.
The direct strategy typically involves placing composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This approach is generally referred to as bonding.
The indirect technique generally involves two visits because the veneers will be fabricated at a dental laboratory. At the first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are offered a temporary covering. In 2 to 3 weeks the veneers are back from the lab, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The lab made veneers are normally made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are extremely esthetic.
The benefit of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is eliminated, and the treatment is normally less uncomfortable. Veneers are not advised for teeth that have large fillings or little tooth structure.
You will get care directions for your veneers. Appropriate brushing, flossing and routine dental visits will help in the life of your new and lovely veneers.
