Why Choose Same Day Crowns?

It is essential for a person to have a strong and healthy set of teeth. However, there are some cases where dental cavity formation is inevitable. It is often brought on by the individual's diet, habits and hygiene. Cavities that are not managed early may cause substantial damage to the tooth's enamel which might need a dental crown to restore its natural appearance and function.

A dental crown is a cap formed like a tooth which is used to cover the tooth that has undergone extensive damage brought on by dental cavities. Getting it typically requires 2 dental appointments. During the very first appointment, your broken tooth is cleaned up and the decayed part is eliminated. The dental practitioner will then get the impression of your tooth that required the crown and will send it to a dental laboratory where traditional dental crowns were made. It could be made from a metal, ceramic or porcelain material. Only during the 2nd visit, your custom-fitted dental crown is cemented to your affected tooth.

With the improvement in dental technology, the procedure of getting and wearing a dental crown has been made easily offered. Dental practitioners use the new technology in making inlays/onlays, crowns and veneers. After your broken tooth is prepared, they will use an intraoral camera that will take the picture of your broken tooth and have it uploaded to a computer. It will use a computer-aided design in taking the digital impression of your teeth and the impression is transferred to the computer-aided manufacturing machine which will mill a color-matched ceramic block to your same day crowns. Choosing a same day crown over a standard dental crown has its advantages and downsides.

Today's Discussion Will Be About:

TMJ (Temporal-Mandibular Joint)

TMJ means temporal-mandibular joint. Temporal, as in temple area of skull; mandibular as in mandible, or lower jaw; joint as in it's where the head and jaw meet. Problems in this joint may be brought on by a misalignment of the teeth, trauma, or excess muscle stress. Aside from the two bones that meet there, cartilage buffers them and 5 muscles are associated with the area. If something goes wrong a good deal of trouble can result.

Problems in this area can cause:

  • Earaches.

  • Headaches.

  • Pain in the jaw muscles.

  • Trouble in opening and closing the mouth.

  • Soreness in the area, often extending to the face.

  • Clicking or popping of the jaw.

Dental treatments for the condition can consist of replacing missing teeth, moving teeth, adjusting the bite, filling gaps between teeth, and so on. There is no one solution that is right for all cases. In some cases a plastic mouth piece is utilized to prevent clenching or grinding that is contributing to the issue. If untreated and taken to extremes, surgery may be needed to fix a severely damaged joint.
