Today's Conversation Is About:

Tooth Whitening

Because having whiter teeth has now become the top aesthetic concern of a lot of patients, there are numerous ways to lighten teeth. The most popular method is utilizing a home tooth bleaching system that will lighten teeth dramatically. Because tooth bleaching just works on natural tooth enamel, it is necessary to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, and so on. Replacement of any restorations will be done after bleaching so they will match the recently bleached teeth.

Most dentists utilize multiple methods: customizeded tray lightening, professional strength white strips, and in-office bleaching.

The tray technique involves having impressions taken, which the lab makes into custom-made vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is put in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The entire process takes about a week of day-to-day use. Three various strengths of gel might be used, however, the higher the strength, the higher the possibility of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray method is suggested for terribly stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it may take multiple months of use to see substantial color improvement.

Our in-office treatment is a extremely quick and convenient bleaching procedure. The appointment is roughly one hour including both the preparation and treatment. Our patients like this treatment since it is so simple and quick!

Tooth whitening is not permanent. A touch-up might be needed once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For upkeep of whitened teeth the trays should be used every couple of months.

Reasons For Tooth Whitening:

  • Yellow, brown stained teeth.

  • Normal wear of outer tooth layer.

  • Florousis (extreme fluoridation during tooth development).

  • Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, and so on).
