Tooth Veneers (Porcelain)
Veneers are a very thin pieces of durable, tooth shaped, porcelain that are custom made (for shape and color) by a professional dental lab. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to produce a gorgeous and appealing smile.
Veneers can completely improve your teeth and smile. They can commonly be alternatives to crowns and the ideal solution in treating numerous cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
Similar to many dental restorations, veneers may one day require replacement; however, they are still really durable and will last multiple years, offering you a long lasting, gorgeous smile.
How Are Veneers Applied?
Veneers are a dental procedure in which a covering is positioned over the outside (visible area) of the tooth. Veneers are generally only done to the part of the teeth that are seen when talking or smiling. The treatment can be direct or indirect.
The direct method normally involves placing composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This method is typically referred to as bonding.
The indirect technique generally involves two visits because the veneers will be made at a dental lab. At the very first appointment the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are provided a short-term covering. In two to three weeks the veneers are back from the lab, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The laboratory fabricated veneers are usually made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are very esthetic.
The advantage of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is eliminated, and the treatment is generally less uncomfortable. Veneers are not recommended for teeth that have huge fillings or little tooth structure.
You will get care guidelines for your veneers. Appropriate brushing, flossing and regular dental visits will help in the life of your brand-new and stunning veneers.
