What Are Same Day Dental Crowns?

Same day crowns are a new innovation that a dental expert can financially restore broken teeth in a single visit using a premium ceramic product that matches the natural color of other teeth.

How Does It Work?

Same day crowns use a CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) technology, incorporating a camera, computer and a milling machine in one instrument. The dentist uses a unique camera to take an precise picture of the damaged tooth. This optical impression is transferred and displayed on a color computer screen, where the dental practitioner uses CAD innovation to design the restoration. Then CAM takes over and automatically develops the restoration while the client waits. Finally, the dental practitioner bonds the new restoration to the surface area of the old tooth. The whole procedure takes about one hour.

What Does This Technology Mean For A Client?

A tooth-colored restoration means no more silver fillings discoloring smiles. The filling is natural-looking, suitable with tissue in the mouth, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant. Dentists no longer have to produce temporaries or take impressions and send them to a laboratory. Because of this, the standard second visit has actually been eliminated. This brand-new innovation has more than a decade of medical research and documents to support it. The restorations have actually been proven accurate, safe and efficient.

The Topic Of The Day Is:

Fillings

Fillings are done to eliminate decay, and replace the afflicted tooth structure. It is called a filling due to the fact that brand-new material fills the hole that the decay left. Now days most teeth are treated with bonded tooth colored composite resin fillings. Caught early enough, cavities can be treated easily and painlessly. If not treated, decay can result in tooth discomfort and/or infection, and the tooth would need a root canal treatment or extraction.

There are 2 types of fillings; amalgam or silver fillings, and composite or white fillings. Composite fillings are tooth-colored to blend in with the remaining natural part of the tooth. Most dentists provide both kinds of fillings, but find that a number of their clients like the composite fillings.

The term composite refers to the actual filling material which is a mixture of glass or quartz filler in a resin medium.

Composite fillings supply great durability and resistance to fracture in small-to-mid size restorations that need to stand up to moderate chewing pressure. Less tooth structure is removed when the dentist prepares the tooth, and this might result in a smaller sized filling than with of an amalgam.

In addition, composites are "bonded", or adhesively attached, to the tooth, frequently allowing a more conservative repair for the tooth. Composite fillings require that the tooth be kept clean and dry throughout the whole filling process and they undergo stain and staining in time. The life expectancy of a white filling can depend significantly on where it is in your mouth and how heavily your teeth come together when you bite.

Composite filling material is also typically utilized to repair front teeth that have chipped or worn. Where possible, esthetic bonding of composite material to front teeth is generally much cheaper than veneers or crowns. However, bonding usually does not last as long as veneers or crowns.
