What Is A Dental Crown?

To get ready for the crown, dental practitioners drill to eliminate the decayed area and also form the tooth to prepare for the crown for that part which lies around and above the gum line.

The Topic For Today Is:

Root Canal (Endodontic Treatment)

Root canal treatment (also described as root canal therapy or endodontic therapy) is essential when a cavity is allowed, through neglect, to reach all the way to the root pulp. (Regular cleanings and checkups prevent and discover problems early). Sometimes deep restorations or trauma to a tooth might also cause the nerve to be damaged to the point it requires root canal therapy. Once this happens, the pulp ends up being infected, and can even extend through the root tip and start to eat away at the surrounding bone (this is an abscess).

By the time the pulp is infected it must be treated, and can not heal by itself. It can even damage the whole immune system. This is dangerous, and may be extremely painful. Symptoms that the pulp has actually ended up being infected might include sensitivity to hot/cold or sweets, discomfort, swelling, pain to biting or pressure, and a bad taste in the mouth. In some cases, however, no signs appear and the individual is unaware of any issue until a checkup.

A root canal is then carried out to clear out the infected tooth pulp, and sanitize the canals of the tooth. The only other treatment would be to extract the tooth. As soon as the infection is dealt with, the canal(s) are filled in to prevent any further infection. Typically a core build-up and crown is recommended for recovering a tooth that has had root canal therapy.
