Dental Bonding (Composite)
Bonding is a treatment where we use a tooth-colored composite material to a tooth, shape it, allow it to solidify, and polish it. It can be used in specific scenarios where a tooth has been damaged or become stained. These are typically small repairs, ones that can be resolved through this fairly affordable ways rather than through a more expensive dental treatment.
How It Works:
Bonding includes adhering composite resin material that is matched to the color of the tooth, to the front of the tooth. This is done to repair damage done to the tooth by decay, to change the alignment of the tooth, close gaps between the teeth, or for cosmetic purposes. First the surface of the tooth is roughed up in order to accept the bonding and hold it. A gel is applied to micro etch the tooth surface area, and a primer/bond agent is applied so the material sticks to the surface area. Then the material itself is put on the tooth and hardened with intense light. The composite resin material is shaped and polished to get a lustrous finish as a last step.
