Porcelain Tooth Veneers
Veneers are a very thin pieces of durable, tooth shaped, porcelain that are custom made (for shape and color) by a professional dental laboratory. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to create a lovely and attractive smile.
Veneers can completely reshape your teeth and smile. They can typically be alternatives to crowns and the ideal solution in treating lots of cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
Just like the majority of dental restorations, veneers may someday need replacement; however, they are still very durable and will last multiple years, giving you a long lasting, stunning smile.
How Are Veneers Applied?
Veneers are a dental procedure in which a covering is put over the outside (noticeable area) of the tooth. Veneers are normally only done to the part of the teeth that are visible when talking or grinning. The procedure can be direct or indirect.
The direct strategy generally involves placing composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This method is usually referred to as bonding.
The indirect method generally involves 2 appointments because the veneers will be fabricated at a dental lab. At the very first appointment the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are offered a temporary covering. In 2 to 3 weeks the veneers are back from the laboratory, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The laboratory fabricated veneers are normally made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are really esthetic.
The benefit of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is removed, and the procedure is typically less unpleasant. Veneers are not recommended for teeth that have large fillings or little tooth structure.
You will receive care guidelines for your veneers. Appropriate brushing, flossing and routine dental visits will help in the life of your new and stunning veneers.
