Porcelain Veneers (Teeth)
Veneers are a really thin pieces of durable, tooth shaped, porcelain that are customizeded (for shape and color) by a professional dental laboratory. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to create a beautiful and attractive smile.
Veneers can completely reshape your teeth and smile. They can typically be alternatives to crowns and the ideal option in treating many cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
Just like many dental restorations, veneers may one day need replacement; however, they are still extremely resilient and will last many years, providing you a long lasting, lovely smile.
How Are Veneers Set?
Veneers are a dental procedure in which a covering is positioned over the outside (visible area) of the tooth. Veneers are typically only done to the part of the teeth that are visible when talking or smiling. The procedure can be direct or indirect.
The direct method generally involves placing composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This method is normally referred to as bonding.
The indirect technique generally involves two visits because the veneers will be made at a dental laboratory. At the very first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are offered a temporary covering. In two to three weeks the veneers are back from the lab, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The laboratory made veneers are usually made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are really esthetic.
The advantage of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is eliminated, and the procedure is usually less uncomfortable. Veneers are not advised for teeth that have huge fillings or little tooth structure.
You will get care guidelines for your veneers. Appropriate brushing, flossing and routine dental visits will aid in the life of your brand-new and beautiful veneers.
