Porcelain Veneers (Teeth)
Veneers are a really thin pieces of durable, tooth shaped, porcelain that are customizeded (for shape and color) by a professional dental lab. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to create a gorgeous and appealing smile.
Veneers can entirely improve your teeth and smile. They can typically be alternatives to crowns and the perfect option in treating lots of cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
As with many dental restorations, veneers might someday require replacement; however, they are still very long lasting and will last years, giving you a long lasting, stunning smile.
How Are Veneers Applied?
Veneers are a dental treatment in which a covering is positioned over the outside (visible area) of the tooth. Veneers are normally only done to the part of the teeth that are seen when talking or grinning. The procedure can be direct or indirect.
The direct method generally involves positioning composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This method is generally referred to as bonding.
The indirect technique normally involves two visits because the veneers will be made at a dental laboratory. At the first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are given a temporary covering. In two to three weeks the veneers are back from the lab, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The lab fabricated veneers are normally made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are very esthetic.
The benefit of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is removed, and the treatment is normally less uncomfortable. Veneers are not suggested for teeth that have huge fillings or little tooth structure.
You will receive care directions for your veneers. Appropriate brushing, flossing and regular dental visits will help in the life of your new and lovely veneers.
