Porcelain Veneers (Teeth)
Veneers are a really thin pieces of long lasting, tooth shaped, porcelain that are customizeded (for shape and color) by a professional dental lab. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to produce a stunning and attractive smile.
Veneers can completely reshape your teeth and smile. They can commonly be alternatives to crowns and the perfect option in treating many cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
As with most dental restorations, veneers might someday require replacement; however, they are still very durable and will last years, giving you a long lasting, beautiful smile.
How Are Veneers Placed?
Veneers are a dental procedure where a covering is positioned over the outside (visible area) of the tooth. Veneers are typically only done to the part of the teeth that are seen when talking or grinning. The treatment can be direct or indirect.
The direct technique generally involves putting composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This approach is typically referred to as bonding.
The indirect method normally involves two visits because the veneers will be fabricated at a dental lab. At the first appointment the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are given a temporary covering. In 2 to 3 weeks the veneers are back from the laboratory, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The lab produced veneers are generally made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are really esthetic.
The benefit of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is eliminated, and the treatment is generally less unpleasant. Veneers are not suggested for teeth that have big fillings or little tooth structure.
You will get care directions for your veneers. Correct brushing, flossing and regular dental visits will help in the life of your brand-new and beautiful veneers.
