Porcelain Veneers (Tooth)
Veneers are a really thin pieces of long lasting, tooth shaped, porcelain that are customizeded (for shape and color) by a professional dental lab. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to create a gorgeous and appealing smile.
Veneers can completely reshape your teeth and smile. They can typically be alternatives to crowns and the perfect option in treating lots of cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
As with most dental restorations, veneers may at some point need replacement; however, they are still really long lasting and will last years, giving you a long lasting, beautiful smile.
How Are Veneers Placed?
Veneers are a dental procedure where a covering is placed over the outside (visible area) of the tooth. Veneers are usually only done to the part of the teeth that are visible when talking or grinning. The treatment can be direct or indirect.
The direct technique usually involves putting composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This technique is normally referred to as bonding.
The indirect method usually involves two appointments because the veneers will be fabricated at a dental lab. At the first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are given a short-term covering. In 2 to 3 weeks the veneers are back from the laboratory, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The laboratory fabricated veneers are usually made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are very esthetic.
The advantage of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is eliminated, and the procedure is usually less unpleasant. Veneers are not recommended for teeth that have big fillings or little tooth structure.
You will receive care guidelines for your veneers. Proper brushing, flossing and routine dental visits will aid in the life of your brand-new and gorgeous veneers.
