What Are Single Visit Crowns?

Same day crowns are a new innovation that a dental practitioner can financially restore damaged teeth in a single visit using a premium ceramic material that matches the natural color of other teeth.

How Does It Work?

Same day crowns use a CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) technology, incorporating a camera, computer and a milling machine in one instrument. The dental practitioner uses a unique camera to take an precise photo of the damaged tooth. This optical impression is transferred and shown on a color computer screen, where the dental practitioner uses CAD technology to design the restoration. Then CAM takes over and immediately develops the restoration while the client waits. Finally, the dental practitioner bonds the brand-new restoration to the surface of the old tooth. The entire procedure takes about one hour.

What Does This Technology Mean For A Client?

A tooth-colored restoration means no more silver fillings discoloring smiles. The filling is natural-looking, suitable with tissue in the mouth, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant. Dental practitioners no longer have to produce temporaries or take impressions and send them to a laboratory. Because of this, the standard 2nd visit has been removed. This brand-new technology has over a decade of scientific research and documents to support it. The restorations have actually been proven accurate, safe and reliable.

Today We Will Be Discussing:

Dental Bonding (Composite)

Bonding is a treatment in which we apply a tooth-colored composite product to a tooth, shape it, allow it to solidify, and polish it. It can be used in specific situations where a tooth has been damaged or become stained. These are usually minor repairs, ones that can be resolved through this relatively affordable ways rather than through a more pricey dental treatment.

How It Works:
Bonding involves adhering composite resin material that is matched to the color of the tooth, to the front of the tooth. This is done to repair damage done to the tooth by decay, to alter the positioning of the tooth, close spaces in between the teeth, or for cosmetic purposes. First the surface area of the tooth is roughed up in order to accept the bonding and hold it. A gel is applied to micro etch the tooth surface area, and a primer/bond agent is used so the material sticks to the surface area. Then the material itself is positioned on the tooth and hardened with intense light. The composite resin material is shaped and polished to obtain a shiny finish as a last step.
