Exactly What Are The Benefits Of Same Day Crowns?

There are multiple advantages to having treatment with same day crowns over traditional, laboratory-made restorations.

  • Everything is performed in a single visit, you just have to visit the dental practitioner once, take one day away from your work to have the treatment, instead of the normal two or three appointments.

  • Only one anesthetic injections, given that the whole treatment can be carried out within an hour you just have to have one injection.

  • Your dentist remains in complete control of the final result, because the crown or inlay are designed and produced from start to finish by your dental practitioner, they have overall control over how it will look and fit.

  • No short-term restorations, which can often fall off in between appointments if they are not looked after appropriately.

The Discussion For Today Will Be:

Dental Crowns

A crown (or cap) is a covering that encases the whole tooth surface restoring it to its initial shape and size. A crown protects and reinforces the tooth structure giving the tooth a longer life span than it would have if restored by fillings or other kinds of restorations.

Crowns are full coverage restorations that are used to cover a tooth that is most likely to break, or is too broken down to be restored with a filling. They are most typically done after root canal treatments, or when a big filling wears out. The larger the hole made by a cavity that needs to be treated, the more likely a crown will be needed. Even after a filling is put in a big cavity, a tooth is most likely to break. Bear in mind that the jaw muscles are the strongest in the human body. Teeth undergo tremendous pressures. Crowns sit over the weakened tooth, offering strength and protecting the tooth against damage. A damaged or cracked tooth is a far more serious matter and much more challenging to treat. Crowns prevent this, as well as producing a good smile.

It takes 2 visits to restore a tooth with a crown. In the very first appointment any decay is eliminated from the tooth and it is formed to accept the crown. Then an impression is made of the tooth for use in fabricating a crown. In between the two visits the crown is made, generally of high-strength porcelain over gold alloy, all ceramic material, or gold. A temporary crown is used during this time. In the second visit this short-term crown is removed. Then the {permanent crown is adjusted as needed and then cemented in place.

What Does Getting A Crown Involve?

A crown procedure generally needs two visits. Your first appointment will include taking impressions that will be used to produce your customized crown. A mold will also be used to create a temporary crown which will remain on your tooth for approximately two weeks till your brand-new crown is made by a dental lab.

While the tooth is numb, the dental practitioner will prepare the tooth by removing any decay and shaping the surface area to properly fit the crown. As soon as these details are accomplished, your temporary crown will be put with short-term cement and your bite will be inspected to guarantee you are biting correctly.

At your 2nd appointment your temporary crown will be removed, the tooth will be cleaned, and your brand-new crown will be carefully placed to ensure the spacing and bite are accurate.

You will be given care instructions and encouraged to have routine dental check ups to examine your crown. As always, proper oral hygiene will help extend the life of your new crown.
