What Are The Benefits Of Same Day Crowns?

There are numerous advantages to having treatment with same day crowns over traditional, laboratory-made restorations.

  • Everything is performed in a single appointment, you just need to see the dental practitioner once, take one day from your work to have the procedure, instead of the typical 2 or three visits.

  • Only one set of local, given that the entire procedure can be carried out within an hour you only have to have one injection.

  • Your dentist remains in complete control of the outcome, given that the crown or inlay are designed and fabricated from start to finish by your dental practitioner, they have total control over how it will fit and look.

  • No temporary restorations, which can often fall off between visits if they are not looked after correctly.

Today's Conversation Will Be About:

Root Canal

Root canal treatment (also referred to as root canal therapy or endodontic therapy) is needed when a cavity is allowed, through neglect, to reach all the way to the root pulp. (Regular cleanings and checkups prevent and find problems early). Often deep restorations or trauma to a tooth might also cause the nerve to be damaged to the point it requires root canal treatment. Once this occurs, the pulp becomes infected, and can even extend through the root tip and start to eat away at the surrounding bone (this is an abscess).

By the time the pulp is infected it has to be treated, and can not heal on its own. It can even weaken the entire immune system. This is dangerous, and might be extremely uncomfortable. Symptoms that the pulp has actually ended up being infected may include sensitivity to hot/cold or sweets, pain, swelling, discomfort to biting or pressure, and a bad taste in the mouth. Sometimes, however, no symptoms appear and the person is unaware of any problem up until a checkup.

A root canal is then performed to clear out the infected tooth pulp, and decontaminate the canals of the tooth. The only other treatment would be to extract the tooth. As soon as the infection is dealt with, the canal(s) are filled in to prevent any additional infection. Generally a core build-up and crown is recommended for restoring a tooth that has actually had root canal treatment.
