What Are Same Day Dental Crowns?

Same day crowns are a brand-new innovation that a dental practitioner can financially bring back broken teeth in a single visit using a high-quality ceramic material that matches the natural color of other teeth.

How Does It Work?

Same day crowns use a CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) innovation, incorporating a camera, computer and a milling device in one instrument. The dentist uses a unique camera to take an precise picture of the broken tooth. This optical impression is downloaded and shown on a color computer screen, where the dentist uses CAD innovation to design the restoration. Then CAM takes over and immediately develops the restoration while the client waits. Finally, the dental practitioner bonds the new restoration to the surface area of the old tooth. The entire process takes about one hour.

What Does This Technology Mean For A Client?

A tooth-colored restoration means no more silver fillings discoloring smiles. The filling is natural-looking, suitable with tissue in the mouth, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant. Dentists no longer need to create temporaries or take impressions and send them to a lab. Because of this, the standard 2nd appointment has been eliminated. This new innovation has over a decade of clinical research and documentation to support it. The restorations have actually been proven accurate, safe and reliable.

The Topic Of The Day Is:

Dental Crowns

A crown (or cap) is a covering that encases the whole tooth surface area restoring it to its original sizes and shape. A crown protects and reinforces the tooth structure giving the tooth a longer life span than it would have if brought back by fillings or other types of restorations.

Crowns are full coverage restorations that are used to cover a tooth that is most likely to break, or is too broken down to be restored with a filling. They are most typically done after root canal treatments, or when a huge filling breaks. The bigger the hole made by a cavity that needs to be treated, the more likely a crown will be needed. Even after a filling is put in a huge cavity, a tooth is more likely to break. Remember that the jaw muscles are the strongest in the human body. Teeth go through tremendous pressures. Crowns ride over the weakened tooth, offering strength and protecting the tooth against damage. A broken or split tooth is a much more serious matter and much more tough to treat. Crowns prevent this, along with producing a good smile.

It takes 2 appointments to bring back a tooth with a crown. In the very first appointment any decay is removed from the tooth and it is formed to accept the crown. Then an impression is made of the tooth for use in producing a crown. Between the two visits the crown is made, generally of high-strength porcelain over gold alloy, all ceramic product, or gold. A short-term crown is worn throughout this time. In the 2nd visit this temporary crown is removed. Then the {permanent crown is adjusted as needed then cemented in place.

Exactly What Does Getting A Crown Include?

A crown treatment normally requires 2 visits. Your first appointment will consist of taking impressions that will be utilized to produce your custom crown. A mold will also be used to create a short-term crown which will stay on your tooth for roughly 2 weeks until your brand-new crown is fabricated by a dental lab.

While the tooth is numb, the dentist will prepare the tooth by getting rid of any decay and shaping the surface to properly fit the crown. When these details are achieved, your short-term crown will be put with temporary cement and your bite will be inspected to guarantee you are biting correctly.

At your second appointment your short-term crown will be removed, the tooth will be cleaned, and your brand-new crown will be carefully placed to make sure the spacing and bite are precise.

You will be given care guidelines and encouraged to have routine dental check ups to inspect your crown. As always, correct oral hygiene will help extend the life of your brand-new crown.
