Same Day Crowns - A Smart Innovation

We aim to stay current with the multitude of technological advances that are happening in dentistry. We are proud to have the same day crown technology in our office. It allows us to develop crowns and bigger restorations in our office. Same day crowns use the most sophisticated dental innovation, consisting of 3D video imaging and CAD/CAM innovation. In layman's terms, it is a computer-designed restoration for your tooth. The whole procedure takes between 1-2 hours and can be finished in one sitting.

Generally, a crown in the past would have required two visits. The very first visit includes preparing the tooth, taking the mold, and fitting a temporary crown. Throughout the second appointment, the short-term crown is replaced with the long-term one. With a same day crown, the whole procedure can be finished in simply one visit. We will use video imaging technology to take a photo of the tooth and use CAD/CAM innovation to create the crown. This 3D design is wirelessly sent to a milling machine that carves the restoration out of a vacuum formed ceramic block. We will then adhere the new crown to your tooth. This removes the need to wear a temporary as well as a 2nd appointment.

Restorative dentistry treatments can be very important to the general health of your teeth and mouth. Please call our office and request a visit.

The Discussion For Today Is:

Fillings

Fillings are done to remove decay, and replace the afflicted tooth structure. It is called a filling since brand-new material fills the hole that the decay left. Now days most teeth are treated with bonded tooth colored composite resin fillings. Caught early enough, cavities can be treated easily and painlessly. If not treated, decay can cause tooth discomfort and/or infection, and the tooth would require a root canal treatment or extraction.

There are two types of fillings; amalgam or silver fillings, and composite or white fillings. Composite fillings are tooth-colored to blend in with the remaining natural part of the tooth. Most dentists provide both types of fillings, but find that a lot of their clients like the composite fillings.

The term composite refers to the actual filling material which is a mixture of glass or quartz filler in a resin medium.

Composite fillings offer great sturdiness and resistance to fracture in small-to-mid size restorations that have to endure moderate chewing pressure. Less tooth structure is eliminated when the dentist prepares the tooth, and this might lead to a smaller filling than with of an amalgam.

In addition, composites are "bonded", or adhesively attached, to the tooth, typically enabling a more conservative repair for the tooth. Composite fillings require that the tooth be kept clean and dry during the entire filling process and they go through stain and staining with time. The life span of a white filling can depend considerably on where it is in your mouth and how heavily your teeth come together when you bite.

Composite filling material is also typically used to fix front teeth that have actually broken or worn. Where possible, esthetic bonding of composite material to front teeth is normally much less expensive than veneers or crowns. However, bonding generally does not last as long as veneers or crowns.
