Porcelain Veneers (Teeth)
Veneers are a very thin pieces of durable, tooth shaped, porcelain that are customizeded (for shape and color) by a professional dental laboratory. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to produce a gorgeous and attractive smile.
Veneers can entirely improve your teeth and smile. They can often be alternatives to crowns and the ideal solution in treating lots of cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
Similar to most dental restorations, veneers may one day need replacement; however, they are still very durable and will last many years, providing you a long lasting, beautiful smile.
How Are Veneers Set?
Veneers are a dental treatment in which a covering is positioned over the outside (noticeable area) of the tooth. Veneers are typically only done to the part of the teeth that are seen when talking or grinning. The treatment can be direct or indirect.
The direct technique typically involves placing composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This method is usually referred to as bonding.
The indirect method typically involves 2 appointments because the veneers will be fabricated at a dental lab. At the first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are offered a temporary covering. In 2 to 3 weeks the veneers are back from the laboratory, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The laboratory produced veneers are normally made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are extremely esthetic.
The benefit of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is removed, and the procedure is generally less uncomfortable. Veneers are not recommended for teeth that have big fillings or little tooth structure.
You will get care guidelines for your veneers. Appropriate brushing, flossing and routine dental visits will aid in the life of your brand-new and beautiful veneers.
