Porcelain Veneers (Teeth)
Veneers are a very thin pieces of resilient, tooth shaped, porcelain that are custom made (for shape and color) by a professional dental laboratory. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to produce a stunning and attractive smile.
Veneers can completely improve your teeth and smile. They can typically be alternatives to crowns and the perfect option in treating many cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
As with a lot of dental restorations, veneers might at some point need replacement; however, they are still really durable and will last years, offering you a long lasting, lovely smile.
How Are Veneers Applied?
Veneers are a dental treatment where a covering is placed over the outside (visible area) of the tooth. Veneers are normally only done to the part of the teeth that are visible when talking or grinning. The treatment can be direct or indirect.
The direct technique typically involves positioning composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This technique is normally referred to as bonding.
The indirect strategy typically involves two visits because the veneers will be fabricated at a dental lab. At the first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are provided a short-term covering. In 2 to 3 weeks the veneers are back from the lab, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The lab fabricated veneers are usually made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are very esthetic.
The benefit of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is removed, and the treatment is normally less uncomfortable. Veneers are not suggested for teeth that have huge fillings or little tooth structure.
You will get care guidelines for your veneers. Proper brushing, flossing and routine dental visits will help in the life of your new and beautiful veneers.
