Crowns are artificial caps, normally made from a product like porcelain, placed on the top of a tooth.

Crowns are generally used to fix a tooth's function and look following a restorative treatment such as a root canal. When degeneration in a tooth has become so advanced that huge parts of the tooth should be eliminated, crowns are frequently used to fix the tooth.

Crowns are also used to avoid a cracked tooth from worsening, connect bridges, cover implants, or an existing filling is in jeopardy of becoming loose or dislocated. Crowns also serve as an aesthetic use, and are applied when a discolored or stained tooth has to be brought back to its natural appearance.

Treatments

A tooth must typically be decreased in size to accommodate a crown. A cast is made of the existing tooth and an impression is made. The impression is sent to a special laboratory, which makes a custom-made crown. In some cases, a temporary crown is used till the permanent crown is prepared. Permanent crowns are sealed in place.

Crowns are in some cases mistaken as veneers, however they are quite different. Veneers are typically applied only to fairly little locations.

Caring For Your Crowns

With appropriate care, a good quality crown could last approximately eight years or longer. It is crucial to floss in the area of the crown to prevent excess plaque or collection of particles around the restoration.

Specific behaviors such as jaw clenching or bruxism (teeth grinding) considerably shorten the life of a crown. Furthermore, consuming hard foods, ice or hard candy can jeopardize the adhesion of the crown, or perhaps damage the crown.

Today Were Talking About:

Ultra Sonic Cleanings

We use ultrasonic scalers for a lot of adult dental cleanings. These devices utilize ultrasonic vibrations to help breakdown the plaque and calculus on the teeth that cause gingivitis and periodontal disease. The ultrasonic cleaners create microscopic bubbles that implode on the surface of the tooth, eliminating microorganisms and getting rid of plaque and tartar in the process. Our instruments use a thin tip to better navigate in the gum pockets to help maintain optimal gingival health.

  • The treatment only uses water, no chemicals are used.

  • It can remove tartar buildup in hard-to-reach locations, with no damage to the tooth enamel.

  • Manual scaling typically uses pressure for cleaning, while the vibration produced by the scaling tip of an ultrasonic scaler is barely noticeable. This makes ultrasonic cleaning appropriate to those with delicate teeth.

  • The cleaning process is quicker than manual scaling making your visit more comfy.

After your teeth have actually been cleaned with the ultrasonic cleaner, your teeth will be hand scaled to check for any residual deposits and then polished.
