Because having whiter teeth has now become the top aesthetic concern of most patients, there are multiple methods to lighten teeth. The most popular technique is utilizing a home tooth lightening system that will lighten teeth considerably. Since tooth lightening only works on natural tooth enamel, it is necessary to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, and so on. Replacement of any restorations will be done after lightening so they will match the freshly bleached teeth.
Most dentists utilize numerous techniques: custom made tray bleaching, professional strength white strips, and in-office whitening.
The tray approach involves having impressions taken, which the lab fabricates into custom vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is put in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The whole procedure takes about a week of everyday use. 3 various strengths of gel might be utilized, however, the higher the strength, the higher the possibility of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray technique is suggested for badly stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it might take multiple months of use to see considerable color improvement.
Our in-office treatment is a very quick and practical whitening procedure. The visit is roughly one hour consisting of both the preparation and treatment. Our clients enjoy this treatment because it is so easy and quick!
Tooth lightening is not permanent. A touch-up may be required once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For maintenance of whitened teeth the trays need to be utilized every few months.
Reasons For Tooth Whitening:
- Yellow, brown stained teeth.
- Normal wear of outer tooth layer.
- Florousis (excessive fluoridation during tooth development).
- Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, and so on).
