Because having whiter teeth has now become the number one aesthetic concern of a lot of clients, there are a number of methods to bleach teeth. The most popular method is using a home tooth whitening system that will whiten teeth significantly. Because tooth whitening just works on natural tooth enamel, it is necessary to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, and so on. Replacement of any restorations will be done after whitening so they will match the newly bleached teeth.
Most dentists utilize numerous methods: customizeded tray lightening, professional strength white strips, and in-office whitening.
The tray approach involves having impressions taken, which the lab fabricates into custom vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is placed in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The whole procedure takes about a week of day-to-day use. 3 various strengths of gel may be used, however, the higher the strength, the higher the likelihood of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray approach is advised for badly stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it might take multiple months of use to see significant color improvement.
Our in-office treatment is a very fast and practical whitening process. The visit is roughly one hour consisting of both the preparation and treatment. Our clients enjoy this treatment since it is so simple and quick!
Tooth lightening is not permanent. A touch-up may be required once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For maintenance of whitened teeth the trays must be used every few months.
Reasons For Tooth Whitening:
- Yellow, brown stained teeth.
- Normal wear of external tooth layer.
- Florousis (excessive fluoridation throughout tooth development).
- Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, and so on).
